The NSW Sector Capacity Building Program is a training and consultancy support program for preschools delivered by a range of qualified providers across NSW as part of the NSW Department of Education funded Preschool Disability and Inclusion Program.

The Sector Capacity Building Program is available to all NSW community preschools and the support and training provided reflects each preschool’s circumstances and needs.

The key objectives of the Sector Capacity Building Program are to:

  • Increase educators’ capacity to include children with disability and additional needs on the same basis as their peers
  • Increase educators’ capacity to provide specialised transition to school supports for children with disability and additional needs
  • Enable equitable education outcomes for children with disability and additional needs consistent with the five outcome areas of the Early Years Learning Framework (Identity, Connectedness, Wellbeing, Confident and Involved Learners, Communication)
  • Support educators to understand the external support options for children with disability and additional needs, and how these supports can be used to complement the preschool program

KU Children’s Services is contracted to provide the Sector Capacity Building Program to preschools in the Central Coast, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Murrumbidgee, Nepean Blue Mountains, Northern Sydney, Sydney, South East Sydney, and Western Sydney regions. Support is provided by Preschool Inclusion Consultants who are qualified early childhood teachers with experience in including children with additional needs.

Support includes:

  • Tailored telephone and online support
  • Face to face and virtual preschool visits
  • Networking opportunities
  • Online and face to face professional learning about inclusive practices

The Inclusion Gateway website is accessible via a login to preschools that KU is contracted by the NSW Department of Education to support.
