You can make a life-changing difference for a child today
Donate todayBarriers of access to early intervention for children with additional needs before they start school is a stark reality for families living on low incomes.
Its why KU Marcia Burgess Foundation is raising vital funds to provide financial assistance for children, who are neurodivergent, have autism, a disability, or other additional needs, to access early intervention in the critical first five years of their development.
All children deserve equality of inclusion in education and life. Early intervention for children with additional needs markedly increases their ability to achieve their best learnings and social outcomes.
Please, give a life-changing gift today and help us assist more children to access specialist developmental assessments and therapies before they start school.
I’m sure you can imagine the financial challenges and worries that families on very low incomes face every day and the added distress that comes with the postponement of professional services to support their children’s best development goals.
The waitlists for public health continue to be extensive, and children are often unlikely to access vital early intervention services before starting school. Plus, the cost to see private practitioners is prohibitive for families on very low incomes.
Every dollar you donate adds up to supporting children who would otherwise miss out on access to specialist Allied Health professionals.
Development Assessments are $582 to $1,784, and Therapy Sessions cost from $194 to $223 per hour.

We would not have been able to access these services otherwise. The waiting lists and costs prevented us from supporting her speech and language. It’s such a relief to know she is getting support and before starting school.

Children assisted in this program have individual needs and challenges. It’s not a one-fit-all approach but premised on a framework of evidence-based best practice to meet the needs of individual children.
Your donation contributes to providing children with:
- cognitive development, expressive and receptive language skills, and motor skills;
- building self-confidence and social skills for inclusion in learning activities, play, and in friendships; and
- a smoother transition to school, with any additional supports needed identified early.
The program’s holistic approach equips families and early educators with strategies to assist each child’s development as well as offer support to navigate healthcare and NDIS systems now and in the longer term.
The tax-deductible donation you make today will make a significance on a child’s life.
Thank you for your life-changing gift and helping to make the KU difference even greater.
