In April 2017, the Office of the Children’s Guardian (OCG) launched a suite of Child Safe eLearning packages designed to assist organisations to implement effective child safe policies and practices to protect children. KU is a proud supporter of the initiative and KU CEO, Christine Legg, was invited to give an address at the launch.

The package is a free online resource consisting of a number of modules which address real issues including management of potential risks in the organisation, such as identifying inappropriate relationships (grooming practices) by adults towards children, management of complaints and reporting obligations, development of policies and guidelines for workers, how to recruit and retain suitable staff and the importance of creating a culture where children’s voices are heard and participation is valued.

The package is accessible on the OCG website at https://ocg.nsw.gov.au/training-and-resources

KU officially endorses these resources. We believe the modules will provide educators with the skills and knowledge needed to help create safe environments for children.

KU also recently entered a partnership with the OCG to roll out the SAFE Series Protective Behaviours program, consisting of four story books containing personal safety messages for children aged 2 - 6 years old. Educators and parents will be hearing more about this initiative in the near future.
