KU Chatswood Community Preschool has achieved an ‘Exceeding’ rating under the early childhood National Quality Standard.

The centre joins the 85% of KU services that have received an ‘Exceeding’ rating, outstripping the national average of just 33% (Source: Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority).

The rating recognises the preschool’s commitment to providing high quality early childhood education, and the strong relationships that exist between the centre’s children, families, staff and local community.

“At KU Chatswood, we have a very diverse preschool community. Over 95% of our families speak English as a second or third language, and many of our families are new to Australia,” said KU Chatswood Community Preschool Director, Kathy Hatcher.

“We are dedicated to enhancing inclusion, increasing trust and building relationships to support the belonging of our families and community.”

In addition to their ‘Exceeding’ rating, the preschool was recently recognised as a finalist at the 2018 HESTA Early Childhood Education & Care Awards in the ‘Building Inclusion’ category.

The preschool was recognised for their welcome program which builds inclusion amongst its culturally diverse community by encouraging current parents and children to participate in orientating new families and socialising outside of school.

“From our very first interaction and throughout the entire educational journey, we aim to create an environment that welcomes and encourages involvement and values families’ insights, thoughts and contributions to build inclusion, social confidence and enthusiasm to achieve and succeed,” said Kathy.
