Our Program and Approach

The Joey Club Melbourne is a work based long day care service offering day care to Qantas and Airservices employees. We also offer a small percentage of place per day to the general community.

At our centre childhood is celebrated. When they play and explore, children's imagination and curiosity is sparked – they enjoy learning, and are inspired to continue learning more.

The Joey Club provides exceptional education and care for children within a safe and nurturing learning environment.

We provide a play-based learning program, which is centred on children’s individual strengths and interests. Our program is designed to allow children to develop a wide range of skills including curiosity, creativity, decision-making, exploration, language and self-expression.

We maintain personalised documentation for each child, reflecting their individual learning and development, and we have an ‘open door’ policy, encouraging families to actively participate in their child’s development and the program that is taught.

Our Special Interest

In addition to the high quality well-rounded programs we offer, all KU centres are also encouraged to develop an area of interest.

At the Joey Club, our special area of interest is contemporary early years theories and practices and we incorporate these ideas in our program. Educators are providing open ended materials and resources. Our creative and inviting play spaces encourage and support the children to move freely, to explore, learn and develop.

We believe every moment of a child’s day matters. Educators purposefully provide calm, slow paced routines throughout the day which offer rich opportunities for the children and educators to connect, learn and build authentic relationships.

Our Quality

Our centre has been independently assessed by the Department of Education and Training Victoria under the National Quality Standards, and are proud to be rated as Exceeding the National Quality Standard.

However what matters most is what our families think...

"Enrolling our kids at the Joey Club Melbourne is undoubtedly one of the best decisions that we have made as parents. I am reassured every day when we walk through the doors into a happy, peaceful and inspiring space, that my kids are getting a great start to life. The education program at the Joey Club is exceptional and the children have amazing resources and creative spaces to play in and explore. The team is very community oriented, it is very comforting to see my kids being treated so respectfully and warmly. I really value the continuity of staff at the centre, my family has built strong relationships with the carers, I know my kids are being cared for by adults they trust and like. Thank you to each and every staff member at the Joey Club for your dedication, energy, enthusiasm and creativity, we are so lucky to have you." - Joey Club Melbourne parent

"I can't speak highly enough about The Joey Club Melbourne. From day one, my experience has been one of a nurturing and caring environment in which to leave my child. The staff are always welcoming, friendly, smiling and know all the children by their first names, which is a beautiful touch and makes it feel so homely. The environment and facilities are excellent, I have always found the centre to be clean and fresh, the rooms are bright and open and really well set up and the kids all love the outdoor play area which is fabulous with lots of different activities to occupy the children. The staff are extremely professional and caring and the atmosphere at the centre is so warm and friendly and the staff are always interacting with the children. The staff are always ready to have a chat and keep me up to date on what my daughter is learning and the latest themes the children are exploring under their play-based programs and they always let you know what kind of day your child has had, both verbally and in writing through the communication book. The use of Storypark has also been a great way to interact and see what the kids get up to most days. A special shout-out goes to Melanie Sykes, the Director at The Joey Club Melbourne. Melanie does a fabulous and thoroughly professional job running the centre. She is such a positive influence on the children, the staff and the environment and personally ensures that each child is safe and receives a great life experience whilst under her care. Melanie is not afraid to get her hands dirty, I often find her sitting in amongst the kids interacting, playing and handing out cuddles and she always has a welcoming smile as you walk in the door in the morning." - Joey Club Melbourne parent

Our Environment

Each KU centre is unique. The best outcomes for children are created within relationships and interactions between children and staff, and children and their families, not within four walls. We work hard to create beautiful, interesting, homelike learning environments for children – whatever our setting.

The Joey Club is a modern, state-of-the-art centre, purpose built to the highest standards. Our centre includes indoor and outdoor spaces, encouraging children to explore and learn within a bright and spacious environment.

Our playground is designed to maximise the use of the natural environment and allow children to play and explore as they would in their own backyard. We offer stimulating activities that arouse children’s curiosity and encourage them to choose from a variety of planned experiences, expanding their learning potential. Our playground includes natural elements such as sand, water, grass, mud, leaves and twigs, and we also offer gross motor experiences such as climbing, jumping and physical play. We foster the holistic development of each child so they feel inspired to create, imagine and play.

Our Reconciliation Action Plan

KU was proud to launch its inaugural Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2016. At The Joey Club Melbourne, we began our journey to develop our centre’s RAP in 2017 and we are proud to launch it now. Please view it here.

Our team of early childhood educators are qualified, experienced, caring and highly motivated. All hold specialist qualifications in early childhood education. We believe that the positive interactions children have with our staff are the most important component of our high quality program.

Most of the staff at The Joey Club Melbourne have been at the centre for over ten years. We have a great working relationship with one another and offer a wealth of experience, as well as being a refreshing mix of ages.

The daily fees for 2019 at The Joey Club Melbourne are:

  • Community Families: $118
  • Qantas Families: $113

In an increasingly competitive marketplace, KU has remained very proudly a not for profit provider. Our fees are designed to cover the operational costs of delivering the unique KU learning experience, and to ensure KU can continue delivering those experiences for many years to come.
