Early childhood intervention therapy
The KU Allied Health team provides early childhood therapy options to meet the individual needs of children under 9 years of age with developmental concerns, developmental delays or a diagnosis of Autism.
Enquire todayWhat is play-based early childhood intervention?
Play-based early childhood intervention is a therapeutic and educational approach that engages the natural benefits of play to create a nurturing and supportive environment to enhance children’s development.
This approach is evidence-based and widely considered best practice in early childhood development, especially for children with developmental concerns, developmental delays or diagnosed disabilities including Autism.
Play-based intervention:
- supports whole-child development
- creates engagement and motivation
- is child-centred
- is developmentally appropriate
- is flexible and inclusive
Through play-based therapy, children are supported to achieve their best.
Who are KU early childhood intervention therapists?
KU early childhood intervention therapists are highly experienced and skilled early childhood teachers who hold early childhood university degrees and specialised postgraduate training and certification. They have a strong understanding of child development and the principles and practices of the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM).
They work as a part of, and draw on the knowledge, skills and experience of, the wider KU Allied Health team of speech therapists, occupational therapists and psychologists to ensure they provide personalised support for children.
Working together
KU early childhood intervention therapists collaborate with families to address a variety of developmental needs and concerns, helping them identify goals and create a plan to best support their child. Through play, they deliver developmentally appropriate learning experiences in settings that best meet the needs of the child and family.
Families are supported to:
- understand their child’s individual developmental needs
- identify goals and priorities to support their child to reach their full potential
- increase their confidence and capacity to implement early intervention strategies to support their child throughout everyday routines and activities
- participate in therapy sessions
- create partnerships with early childhood professionals to form a team around their child
- help make connections with other local support services (as required)
