Support for children with autism

Play-based early intervention for children aged between 1 to 9 years who have been diagnosed with autism, or who are displaying early signs of autism.

Our approach

KU’s Early Childhood Intervention team offers specialised play-based early childhood intervention that is specifically designed to support the individual needs of children with autism or who may be displaying early signs of autism, aged between 1 and 9 years of age.

KU therapists draw on key evidence-based best practice frameworks and current research to deliver developmentally appropriate play-based learning experiences to support children to develop social communication skills, play skills, relationships and language skills. They have a strong understanding of child development and the principles and practices of ESDM.

How we support families

When accessing KU’s autism therapies and supports, families are supported to:

  • understand their child’s individual developmental needs
  • identify goals and priorities to support their child to reach their full potential
  • increase their confidence and capacity to implement early intervention strategies into everyday routines and activities to support their child
  • access early childhood intervention supports under the NDIS Early Childhood Approach (as required)
  • help make connections with other local support services, as/if required
  • create partnerships with early childhood professionals to form a team of support around their child

Accessing support options

We recognise the importance of providing children with support where they need it most. Support can be provided from:

  • KU’s child friendly clinics located on the grounds of several KU venues in NSW and Victoria;
  • within the early childhood education and care; service or school your child attends;
  • at your home; or
  • at an agreed location within the local community.

KU is a registered provider of services under the National Disability and Insurance Scheme (NDIS) offering both NDIS-funded and fee-for-service options. A referral is not required.
