The children at KU Sutherland Preschool have been busy playing, discovering and learning in their new playground.

The new outdoor environment at the centre features new grass and soft fall areas for the children, a new swing set and a mud kitchen.

โ€œThe children have really enjoyed spending time outside in our new playground,โ€ said KU Sutherland Director, Collette Heslehurst.

โ€œThe upgrade has made the outdoor area a much more inviting and engaging space where the children have more choice in the types of activities theyโ€™d like to take part in which extends their play and learning.โ€

The families at the preschool also agree.

โ€œThe recent playground renovations have been a significant improvement to the children’s play-based learning. I love the design of the outdoor play area with various spots for enhancing imagination and fun,โ€ said Amelia, a parent from the centre.

The preschool celebrated the launch of their new space by holding an official opening and a morning tea with children, families and staff.

The event featured a smoking ceremony by Aboriginal performer Matthew Doyle and it also provided an opportunity for the centre to celebrate the launch of their Reconciliation Action Plan โ€“ a document providing a framework for the preschool to support reconciliation.

โ€œIt was the first time Iโ€™d witnessed a smoking ceremony and what an amazing cultural experience it was,โ€ said Amy, a parent from the centre.

โ€œThe children, families and staff all got involved and it was a moving and invaluable experience for us all. This is just one of many amazing experiences that my children have been involved in whilst attending KU Sutherland.โ€

KU Sutherland provides quality early childhood education for children aged 3 – 5 years and is currently taking enrolments. For more information, contact the Director, Collette Heslehurst on 9521 1975.
