KU Kintaiba Children’s Centre has celebrated their 40th anniversary of providing quality early childhood education and care to local families by holding a community event last Friday.

The special event was attended by children, families and staff from the centre, as well as Member for Wallsend, Ms Sonia Hornery MP. The celebrations included speeches, morning tea and entertainment for the children, including a magic show.

“We had a wonderful day celebrating our 40th anniversary. It was great to recognise this special milestone with our staff, families and local community, who have played an essential role in making KU Kintaiba into the centre it is today,” said KU Kintaiba Acting Director, Michelle Thomas.

The celebrations included cultural performances from the children, which is in line with the program provided at KU Kintaiba, which places an emphasis on cultural competency.

“The children performed an Acknowledgement of Country and one of our parents played the didgeridoo. The children sang songs in the local Awabakal language and also sang Happy Birthday to our centre in both English and Chinese,” said Michelle.

“Cultural competency is embedded within our daily program at KU Kintaiba. This is important because it helps to create an inclusive and diverse environment at our centre and it supports children’s overall wellbeing as they grow and develop throughout childhood and beyond.”
