On Thursday 27 November, KU Chatswood West Preschool celebrated 70 years of delivering not for profit, high-quality education and care in partnership with the local community.

Amongst attendees were KU Chief Executive Officer, Christine Legg; Preschool Director, Annie Phelan; Senior Manager Education and Quality, Rachelle McMahon; Education Quality Manager Lead, Sally Beesley; and Education Quality Manager, Deborah Loveday.

Guests enjoyed cake, refreshments, a performance from a magician and a bubble show, followed by speeches from KU Chief Executive Officer, Christine Legg, and Preschool Director, Annie Phelan, celebrating the preschool’s longstanding connection with their local community. Annie has worked with the KU Chatswood West Preschool team for the past twenty years, fostering connections with the community across generations.

“Over these past seventy years, KU Chatswood West Preschool has inspired children’s learning for life, through the delivery of high-quality, not for profit early education and care. Annie Phelan has been a part of the passionate team for over twenty years, who has made these generational partnerships possible. Today we celebrate a history of connections and learning, and a bright future for KU Chatswood West Preschool,” said Christine Legg.

In 1956, Chatswood West became a branch of KU, previously operating as a community group since 1946. In 1955, the service moved it operations from the Methodist Church Hall, into a new community centre building built by the Willougbhy Council. The preschool is nestled in a peaceful parkland setting, with abounding opportunities for exploration and imaginative play.
