Victorian Minister for Children, the Hon Lizzie Blandthorn MP; City of Greater Geelong Councillor, Emma Sinclair (Charlemont Ward); and KU Children’s Services, Senior Manager, Education Quality, Rachelle McMahon, officially opened the Biyala Community Hub in Armstrong Creek last Thursday with a ribbon‑cutting ceremony.
The event also celebrated KU Children’s Services (KU) opening KU Biyala Community Kindergarten, located within the Biyala Community Hub, and Biyala Kindergarten, located on the site of Biyala Primary School.
KU was appointed to operate the Biyala Community Hub, which will offer the kindergarten, community hall, playground and allied health services to support local families.
“We hope our thriving Armstrong Creek community will embrace the Biyala Community Hub and help it come alive,” said Councillor Emma Sinclair.
The new kindergartens and community hub are conveniently located in Armstrong Creek to provide families with easy access to support services, while ensuring children benefit from high-quality early learning programs that promote a smooth transition to school. Guests at the opening enjoyed guided tours of the purpose-built learning environments, showcasing well-resourced indoor and outdoor spaces designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and play-based learning.
Christine Legg, CEO of KU Children’s Services, said in a statement, “We are delighted to bring KU’s high-quality early childhood education to the Armstrong Creek community and look forward to partnering with local families at the Biyala Community Hub. We extend our sincere thanks to the City of Greater Geelong, the Department of Education, and the Victorian School Building Authority for their continued support.”
Councillor Emma Sinclair also added, “I encourage families to enrol their children in kindergarten as early as possible to secure a place, and for the wider community to explore the programs available within the new community spaces.”
