On Monday 11 April, KU Queanbeyan South Early Learning Centre was officially opened by The Hon. Peter Garrett AM MP, Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth. The centre is located on Alanbar Street, Karabar.

"After more than 18 months in the making, KU is delighted to finally open our newest long day care service, KU Queanbeyan South," said Christine Legg, KU's Chief Executive Officer. "KU is very pleased to be playing such an integral role in ensuring that families are able to access quality early childhood education.

The design of the centre draws on KU's 116 years of experience in early childhood education. It provides the children with a natural learning environment and is based on sustainable principles to facilitate excellent learning outcomes.

KU was chosen by the Commonwealth to design, construct and operate the new centre as part of the Early Learning and Care initiative.

"The location of KU Queanbeyan South within the grounds of Queanbeyan Public school will make life easier for many families who juggle the morning drop-off of their preschool and school age children," Ms Legg explained. "Children will also benefit from the familiarity that comes as a result of the school being our nearest neighbour. We also look forward to working with the primary school to smooth the transition to school for our preschool children. "

Along with KU Black Mountain Children's centre, KU Queanbeyan South is KU's second centre in the local area and provides long day care for children aged 6 weeks to 6 years old. The centre operates 7:30am - 6:00pm, Monday to Friday and is licensed for 48 children each day.
