KU Grevillea Preschool in Hornsby Heights has celebrated their 50th anniversary of providing quality early childhood education and care to local families by holding a community event last week.
The special event was attended by children, families and educators from the preschool, as well as KU Children’s Services CEO Christine Legg, and Hornsby Shire Councillor Warren Waddell.
“We love our preschool and we’re so very proud to celebrate 50 years with our ‘Bushland Shire’ community,” said KU Grevillea Director, Jane Moran.
The celebrations commenced with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony by Guringai man, Uncle Laurie Bimson. After heart-felt speeches, afternoon tea was served including damper the children had made.
One of the highlights on the day was the unveiling of a magnificent poster as Jane explained.
“We created a poster to acknowledge our 50 years with a list of more than 50 sustainable daily actions we’ve embedded in our preschool that demonstrate our commitment to Earth’s future children,” she said.
With everyone coming together, it provided an opportunity for the preschool to recognise and celebrate their close community including their educator team and KU support partners.
“At KU Grevillea, we have a close-knit team of educators who are invested in our preschool. Many educators live in the local area, so several have had their own children enrolled with the service over the years – some even attended themselves as children!” said Jane.
KU Grevillea provides quality early childhood education for children aged 3 - 5 years. The preschool is rated as ‘Exceeding’ the National Quality Standards and is taking enrolments. For more information visit www.ku.com.au/ku.grevillea
