A new Street Library providing books for children and families has opened in Moss Vale outside of KU Donkin Preschool.

The children’s Street Library, which was set up by the preschool, provides members of the local community with the opportunity to donate and borrow books as they like.

“We had a wonderful time celebrating the official opening of our Street Library and we are excited to be able to share our love of books with our children and the local community,” said KU Donkin Director, Karen Hayes.

“Engaging with books provides so many benefits to young children and helps to foster a love of storytelling and reading which will be valuable for them as they move into primary school and beyond.”

The Street Library was built by Matthew Waldron, a parent from the preschool, with his daughter Evelyn helping to open the library by cutting the official ribbon.

“Our children, families and staff came together to celebrate the opening, with families donating books to help get the library started. We finished the event by enjoying celebratory cupcakes together,” said Karen.

“We are looking forward to seeing the range of books in the Street Library to continue to expand over time and we are sure it will be a hit with the local community.”
