Recently children throughout the 7 AMEP centres were involved in a number of celebrations and activities based around different popular children’s books. Activities included daily readings of the feature book, artistic and dramatic activities and themed meal times.
The aim of the Book Week activities was to promote literacy, creativity, imagination, critical thinking, sharing and problem solving. The Book Week celebrations were a joint initiative by KU and the ACL managed Adult Migrant English Program.
Each child was also given their own book to take home and keep which was made possible by generous donations from KU, ACL and the Co-op Bookshop.
As part of Children’s Book Week, lending libraries have been set up in each AMEP centre, laden with popular children’s books in many languages. The libraries are designed to encourage parents to engage with their children through storytelling and reading, in turn promoting early language and literacy.
