KU North Ryde Preschool has celebrated the 125th anniversary of KU Children’s Services (KU). The preschool recognised this special milestone by creating a Spoon Village in their front garden.

“During a challenging time for our community, our Spoon Village has brought so much joy and fun. Not only with the making of the spoons, but also watching passers-by coming up to the garden and windows for a look. We are looking forward to watching it grow as past students and families add their creation. It has been a wonderful way to celebrate the importance KU has always had with connecting and being part of local communities.,” said KU North Ryde Preschool Director, Donna Clark.

“Our project came about after seeing many Spoon Villages popping up around the streets of North Ryde while the children, families and staff were out and about on their daily covid lockdown walks. We thought the materials needed to make the spoons would be a great way to reuse and recycle items we and families already had on hand. The joy and excitement on the children's faces as they show their parents our village has been such a pleasure to witness. It has fostered a strong sense of belonging and is a wonderful way to help the children feel connected to their community,” said Donna.

“Celebrating 125 years really is a way to acknowledge the importance of Early Childhood Education and Care. We have been able to take a stroll down memory lane and take pride in ourselves knowing that being part of the KU family allows us to contribute to the growth and development of the children and families we care for. We are providing the foundations for the start of children's early learning in preparation for their educational and life journey.”
