KU Village Green Children's Centre in Bella Vista has celebrated the 125th anniversary of KU Children’s Services.

The centre recognised this special milestone by collecting items to create 50 gift and care packages to donate to the residents at Bella Vista Gardens Aged Care. The children also made cards to send with the packages.

“Before COVID, the residents would visit our centre to share fun activities, singing and games with the children,” said KU Village Green Director, Jane Thorpe.

“The children have missed these visits and often talk and think about the residents and the fun they had. They were concerned that the residents had to stay in their centre and couldn’t go and visit people or even have families to come and visit them and that they would be lonely.”

“Families fully supported our initiative and brought in many donations, much more than the 125 items we first anticipated, and the children felt proud that they could make some special cards and gifts to let the residents know they are still thinking of them and want them to stay safe and happy,” said Jane.

The theme of the 125 years celebration was ‘making a difference through 125 years of social impact and early education’.

“KU Children’s Services celebrating 125 years reminds our centre of the importance of providing quality early learning services to families and communities that is ongoing and continually adapting to meet the changing needs of families, children and communities. We are very proud to be a KU service, knowing that families, children and the community are all part of our centre community,” said Jane.
