Supported Playgroups

KU has a long history of delivering high quality supported playgroups across the Sydney Inner West and Newcastle Regions. Our supported playgroups are managed under the framework of Targeted Earlier Intervention Program (TEI). We deliver targeted wellbeing and safety activities that support the needs of families and their young children. Supported playgroups are for parents with children between 0 – 5 years.

Our playgroup programs are focused on increasing parents' skills and confidence in supporting their children's growth and development. We provide opportunities for families to build social support networks and to create safe and nurturing home environments for their children.

Our early childhood trained educators are experienced in working with families with diverse needs. Our educators provide a two hour session of structured and unstructured play-based activities that are age appropriate, challenging and interesting, to support your child’s healthy development.

In our supported playgroup sessions, educators discuss with families their child’s interests and development, and offer individual support and referrals to a range of local community and health services. Topics such as children’s play, health, wellbeing and safety are regularly included in our playgroup delivery and families are always welcome to suggest topics of interest.

KU’s supported playgroups are facilitated in various locations and venues such as public schools, community centres and church halls. All supported playgroups are free of charge and operate once a week in the mornings. Some venues may have waiting lists.

Steps to Starting School

KU has been contracted by The Smith Family to deliver the Steps to Starting School project in the Tea Gardens and Tanilba Bay region as part of the Communities for Children initiative funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services.

Steps to Starting School is a targeted program designed to give your child the skills they need to engage effectively with their school environment once they commence kindergarten.

The program is designed to be delivered to children aged 3 to 5 years, in a supportive, non-judgmental environment where you and your child will receive one-on-one support. Numbers are capped so please contact us for information via one of the pages below.
