Our Program and Approach

Inner West Play and Chat provides a supported playgroup program in collaboration with the Benevolent Society. Our program is designed to enhance the development of your child and to prepare them for their next educational setting.

We offer opportunities for you and your child to meet and chat with other families and to share your experiences and knowledge within a safe and friendly environment.

Our staff are qualified early childhood educators and provide a program that is challenging and interesting for your child. In our playgroup sessions, staff provide oral and written information on child development, individual support to families who may experiencing issues regarding their children’s development, information and referral to local community services, child health and other topics of interest to families.

Our Quality

We are proud of the high quality early learning sessions we offer, however what matters most is what our families think....

“I have been attending the KU’s supported playgroup since more than three years. We absolutely love coming here as my child has learnt and improved his social skills and it’s a great opportunity for us to have a quality one-on-one bonding time with my child.” - Inner West Play and Chat parent
“Since we moved to Sydney, we have been coming to the KU Play and Chat program. We shared lots of different things with other families and learn from others. Kids love to come and have fun and experiences in many different ways. Also as a parent I can learn how to raise my children in positives ways.” - Inner West Play and Chat parent

Oriana is a university qualified early childhood teacher and a registered Circle of Security Parenting Program Facilitator, with over 40 years’ experience working with children, babies and parents, particularly with migrants and refugee families. She has been working at Inner West Play and Chat since 2003. She loves music, drama and dance, incorporating these interests in her work with children.

Our team of early childhood educators are qualified, experienced, caring and highly motivated. All hold specialist qualifications in early childhood education. We believe that the positive interactions children have with our staff are the most important component of our high quality program.

A Family Support Worker from the Benevolent Society attends the playgroups and is available to provide families with information and advice, including sessions on child development and the importance of play. The Family Support Worker may also assist in making referrals to other services and working with families in a one-to-one situation.
