Our Program and Approach
KU Grandstand Kids Care is a kindergarten after school program, where we provide a play-based learning program, rich in leisure opportunities that are centred upon children’s interests and strengths, to support their learning and development.
Children have the opportunity to develop their creativity, relationships and life skills in a safe and relaxed environment, strengthening their emerging talents and abilities. The learning that children experience at KU Grandstand Kids Care complements their learning at home and at school.
We also value parent and community involvement, helping to create an environment that reflects and acknowledges diversity.
KU Grandstand Kids Care is for kindergarten children attending North Sydney Demonstration School.
We Focus On
In addition to the high quality well-rounded programs we offer, all KU centres are also encouraged to develop an area of focus.
At KU Grandstand Kids Care, our focus is Sustainability.
We incorporate this into our program through activities such as water conservation, how to minimise waste, reducing our energy footprint and biodiversity.
Many of our children have limited access to outdoor natural environments where they can garden, play in sand and mud and connect to the living world around us. We have wonderful outdoor resources that off-set this at our centre, where children can engage in water play, experiment with hydraulics with our pump and get their hands dirty in the garden. Learning about bio-diversity through play and, for example, watching our silkworms transform, connects children to our natural world with appreciation and respect. We feel this benefits the children, because it helps them look at different ways we can care for our world and create sustainability with re-cycling, managing and minimising waste and conserving energy.
Our Quality
Our centre has been independently assessed by the Department of Education NSW under the National Quality Standards, and are proud to be rated as Exceeding the National Quality Standard.
However what matters most is what our families think...
"I would like to say how fantastic I think KU Grandstand Kids Care is. All of the carers are so kind and thoughtful and the activities that are offered are amazing. Our child started the year asking me if he could not go to after school care and now he insists on being the last child there, he loves it so much. That is testament to how much effort is put into the service, so thank you very much." - KU Grandstand Kids Care parent
"KU Grandstand Kids Care has been a beautiful and caring place for little kindergarten kids to retreat to after a big day at school. We are going to miss you next year – I wish I had another baby I could send to Grandstand! Many thanks again." - KU Grandstand Kids Care parent
Our Environment
Each KU centre is unique. The best outcomes for children are created within relationships and interactions between children and staff, and children and their families, not within four walls. We work hard to create beautiful, interesting, homelike learning environments for children – whatever our setting.
The kindergarten children love returning to the familiarity of an early childhood setting that is rich in resources. Set in a beautiful green park, the area is leafy and green with many areas for children to relax and play.
Our Reconciliation Action Plan
KU was proud to launch its inaugural Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2016. At KU Grandstand Kids Care, we began our journey to develop our centre’s RAP in 2018 and we are proud to launch it now. Please view it here.
