KU Windale's Eco Garden Project

23 September 2010

KU Windale Preschool recently completed a centre garden project, providing great opportunities for the children to gain insight into gardening, how plants grow and the importance of environmental sustainability.

The original preschool Eco Garden consisted of two raised vegetable gardens and was funded through a grant by Department of Housing in 2008.  This year Bunnings Belmont provided materials for 3 new garden beds as well as small gloves and aprons for the children to wear while gardening.

"It has been wonderful to see the children's caring nature develop when tending to and watching the plants grow", says Fiona Moult the preschool Director. "The harvesting of produce for eating also combines well with the healthy eating program at morning tea and lunch time. The children have increased their intake of both fruit and vegetables as well as the range of varieties they are willing to eat."
